I Corinthians 13:1-3 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of
angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling
cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all
knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and
have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor,
and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me
nothing
What you speak, understand or give away
(bestow) means nothing if it is not done in love.
Love is not just a good motivation – it is the only motivation that
is acceptable to God.
In order to understand the full impact of the truth in verses 1-3 we
must understand the definition of love in the following verses.
Love is a choice. While at times it is accompanied by feelings it is
not a feeling.
According to I Corinthians 13:4-13 it is a choice to do what is right and
best for and in our relationships with others.
Today, in the midst of
all our doing and talking, let us love.
Today let us show
the world around us the truth of I Corinthians 13 in all that we say and do.
